In  typical modern journalism fashion the Toronto Star picked the most negative forecast in their story headline lead on Saturday, July 16th.

They cited that some analysts predicted a 25% drop. Hidden in the story was the fact that the major financial institutions predicted a flatlining but qualifying with “everything depends on the economy”.

I think the most accurate and honest forecast and therefore not headline material was from Scotia’s deputy chief economist Aron Gambel – the market may surprise analysts if the economy remains strong.   He said: “I feel the market will certainly moderate, but prices could also go up. It depends on a lot of factors.”
